Year  1990

The Gateshead Garden Festival was the fourth of the United Kingdom's five national garden festivals. Held in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, it lasted 157 days and received over 3m visitors. The cost of reclaiming and redeveloping the land was around £37 million. 5000 previously unemployed people were trained for roles in the festival. After the festival ended, much of the site was replaced by housing. It is said that it helped to kick start the process of regeneration, which resulted in the Baltic, Sage and the Millennium Bridge being built.

Bodyworld was a multi-space exhibition space designed by Rudi Enos, procured by the Northern Regional Health Authority, with a contract value in excess of £1m. The domes were interconnected with tunnels and featured interior displays.
